Biography
The long version.
Nell Voss grew up in a small coastal town where the only venue was a church hall and the only radio station played the same forty songs on repeat.
She learned guitar from library DVDs, wrote her first songs in the back seat of her mother’s car, and started posting them online under a made-up name because being heard felt like a dare. The dare worked: “Lowlight” travelled further than the town ever did.
Soft Machine and Glasshouse Summer followed: two EPs built from drum machines, borrowed keyboards and the kind of choruses you sing with your whole chest. Then came the small stages: back rooms, basements and one very memorable laundromat.
Loud Heart is the first full-length record. Produced with longtime collaborator Sam Okafor and recorded live in rooms chosen for how they sounded rather than how they looked, it’s the loudest and most honest thing she’s made so far.
